Nutritional Therapy with Rebecca Hancock
The importance of Nutrition is often overlooked but can have a massive impact on our daily function and help us to recover from illness and injury. Here is some information about what Nutritional Therapy is and how it can help all of us to make informed decisions about our diet and lifestyle..
Nutritional Therapy
The definition of nutrition means to feed/nourish and the definition of food means any nutritious substance ingested to maintain health. Within Nutritional Therapy, there is a recognition that given the right circumstances and support the body has an innate ability to heal itself. Through utilising the principles of functional medicine, a nutritional therapist seeks to support the whole body and the underlying causes of symptoms (the root cause). This is achieved through a comprehensive analysis of your body’s systems and an assessment of any symptoms experienced to establish the underlying causes. It may be necessary to undertake laboratory testing alongside this analysis to gain a deeper understanding of what is happening at a biochemical level. If this is the case the practitioner will discuss further with you during the consultation. Through this comprehensive assessment, you can be expected to receive personalised lifestyle and nutritional recommendations and ongoing support to achieve optimal health.
What is Functional Medicine?
Functional Medicine addresses the whole person and considers that everyone is genetically unique and therefore requires an individual, science-based approach to their health.A detailed understanding of each patient’s genetic, biochemical, and lifestyle factors is required to put together an individual plan. By addressing the root cause, rather than symptoms, practitioners become oriented to identifying the complexity of disease. This process allows patients and practitioners to work together to address the underlying causes of disease and promote optimal wellness. In doing this empowering the patient to take an active role in their own health.
